Begin with some ideas of the desired results, but without preconceptions. Establish an iterative process to facilitate exploratory delivery. Recognize mistakes and failures as steps toward innovation. Coach the team on a journey that they cannot take on their own, using earned trust to influence their focus. You'll need subtlety, authority, and patience. Have diligent faith in an impeccable process and know that good ideas will emerge and it will produce something of value before the deadline. Throw out questions and moderate interactions to see many things converge over time. Facilitate without detailed or coercive direction. You can't supervise talented people just like you can't herd racehorses ; you must lead them with passionate support and faith in their work.
